Message from our Chairman - Delivered on the High Holidays
On the High Holidays we go through our period of personal introspection, I have never felt the warmth and comfort more than from our Chavurat Emet friends.
In entering our seventh year, Chavurat Emet has carved out a unique position in the Hebrew religious spectrum that truly fulfills a need.
Though this holiday carries huge religious significance, Chavurat Emet manages to provide the correct balance of religion and social activities to round out the complete spectrum.
After 35 years experience in traditional synagogues I was overwhelmed with the spirit and friendship. I look forward, with joy, to our Chavurat Emet services. It begins with our concise Rosh Hashanah service, led by our spiritual leader Neal Spevack and assisted by our lovely choir. At the end of the service, everyone mingles and greets each other and goes home with a holiday gift bag.
In the afternoon we congregate at a member’s home for Tishlich Services highlighted by folk dancing, deposition of our sins into the Long Island Sound, snacks are, of course, served and more socializing occurs. More prayers follow the following day and half.
For Yom Kipper, the service ends with the cellist duet’s musical interpretation of the Kol Nidre.
Everyone is mesmorized and one can hear a pin drop initiating the next 24 or so hours of personal intrinsic thoughts.
Those of you contemplating joining us for the first time, rest assured it will be a most interesting experience.
Olga and I extend an L’Shona Tova to all.
